Electroneum 2.0: Redefining What's Possible

Early this year, Electroneum launched its 2.0 version—a complete blockchain overhaul that transformed the project into a fast, low-cost, EVM-compatible Layer-1 chain with 5-second transaction finality. 

This wasn't just an update; it was a fundamental evolution that positioned Electroneum among the top five fastest blockchains globally.

The technical upgrade (code-named Project Aurelius) opened the door for decentralized applications while maintaining Electroneum's core mission of real-world financial inclusion. 

With instant transactions and EVM compatibility, developers can now build dApps without the cost barriers of larger chains.

Alongside the technical leap came a complete rebrand in March 2024, featuring a fresh logo and the "ETN-Network" identity to reflect that Electroneum is now more than just a cryptocurrency—it's a growing blockchain ecosystem with a history of serving over 5 million registered users worldwide.

Developer Community Takes Flight: First Hackathon Success

To showcase the new platform's capabilities, Electroneum held its first-ever hackathon in early 2025, and the results exceeded all expectations. 

The event attracted over 1,300 participants from around the world, competing for $52,500 in ETN and sponsor prizes, with infrastructure partners like Ankr sponsoring the event.

The Grand Prize winner, ElectroSwap, proved that complex DeFi applications can thrive on Electroneum's network. This decentralized exchange leveraged the chain's 5-second finality and low fees to deliver what judges called a "next generation" dApp.

Other winners included innovative solutions like Decent Token Creator for easy token deployment and AuditFi, an AI-driven smart contract security analyzer.

The hackathon's success demonstrated that builders are excited about Electroneum 2.0's potential, unlocking a wave of creativity that's crucial for long-term ecosystem growth.

AnyTask’s 5th birthday: Proven Real-World Impact

This year marked the 5th anniversary of AnyTask.com, Electroneum's flagship freelance marketplace. 

Since launching in February 2020, AnyTask has become a cornerstone of the ecosystem, enabling digital freelancers to sell services without needing bank accounts or paying fees.

The platform reached new heights in its fifth year, introducing direct crypto payments in late 2024. Now both buyers and sellers can transact entirely in ETN, creating a self-contained crypto commerce ecosystem. 

This evolution demonstrates how AnyTask is pioneering 100% commission-free freelancing while proving that cryptocurrency can solve real problems for underbanked users globally.

AnyTask's success—featured in mainstream media including CNBC and BBC—validates Electroneum's vision: when a freelancer in Nigeria or Brazil can earn ETN and spend it on real-world needs, the promise of a crypto-powered digital economy becomes tangible.

We’ve seen the launch of Electroneum Africa - an independent group who are teaching Web3 and blockchain skills at various African universities.

Record-Breaking Network Activity

Electroneum's blockchain data tells a compelling story of adoption. The network now processes 200,000–350,000 transactions daily—a remarkable figure that puts Electroneum alongside some of the busiest blockchains globally. 

With transactions from AnyTask payments, mobile top-ups, peer-to-peer transfers, smart contract interactions and exchange transactions the network is busier than it has ever been.

Even more impressive is the growth trajectory. Network stats from May 2025 showed Electroneum handling Avalanche-level transaction counts while using only ~1.2% of its capacity. 

In one month, as the success of the Hackathon lead to record smart contract usage, ETN's on-chain activity jumped +32.5%, outpacing dozens of major networks and demonstrating the success of the 2.0 upgrade.

The network's ability to handle this load with negligible fees (fractions of a cent) makes micro-transactions and everyday usage feasible—validating years of effort in building an ecosystem with genuine real-world impact.

Expanding Exchange Presence

Electroneum's accessibility has significantly improved through expanded exchange support. Notable new listings include GroveX, an Australian-based exchange serving the Asia-Pacific region, which reflects the industry trend of exchanges embracing innovative Layer-1 tokens.

Perhaps more significantly, DEX-TRADE will not only list ETN but also support tokens built on the Electroneum blockchain. 

This marks a historic milestone: the first ETN ecosystem token is set to debut on a centralized exchange, lowering barriers for developers and entrepreneurs building on our chain.

These listings underscore Electroneum's growing credibility. From a handful of exchanges years ago, ETN is now available on 4 of the top 10 platforms including KuCoin, MEXC, Huobi/HTX, Gate.io, as well as a number of up and coming exchanges including GroveX and Biconomy.
